Bought a new blu-ray combo (ASUS SBC-06D2X-U) to replace second dead superdrive. It claims Mac compatibility and reads cds/dvds etc fine, but Mac won't allow me to burn blu-ray backups-- just ejects the blanks with no error message. What can I do/buy to make my early 2010 Mac Pro recognize blu-ray media?
What app are you using to backup?
Can you successful burn Blu-Ray disks using a different app on this Mac?
You need some extra software, like Roxio's Toast, that includes drivers for OSX to read/write Blu-ray discs. (Note: it won't play Blu-ray Video discs, but it will read/write/re-write Blu-ray data discs.)
Not sure what's going on. I use Toast Titanium for all of my burning, but I have also tested with a rewriteable Blu-ray disk and used OS X's built in Burn utility. No problem creating a data disk directly from OS X.
